Regularity of solutions to elliptic equations on a manifold with edge, in particular, of boundary value problems (BVPs) without the transmission property, is expected in terms of weighted edge spaces and subspaces with asymptotics. An example is the Laplacian in a (say smooth) domain with oblique derivative conditions, determined by two vector fields on different parts int Y_- and int Y_+ of the boundary Y that have a jump along an interface Z=Y_-\cap Y_+ of codimension 1  on Y. Asymptotics take place in the distance variable r >0 to the boundary, and their form is expected as a linear combination of terms r^{p_j}log^k r for complex exponents p_j and some logarithmic powers k=0,. . .,m_j. In general, the asymptotic data (p_j,m_j)_{j=0,. . . N} including the coefficients depend on the variable z \in Z. Except for the fact that these data form a very fragile information that can easily destroyed under pseudo-differential actions, involved in parametrix constructions that should deliver such a kind of regularity, the shape of singular functions itself is an interesting invention which also allows to describe Green's functions of such BVPs. We outline recent progress in studying such asymptotic phenomena and illustrate their role in the pseudo-differential analysis on stratified spaces.
