Descrizione
We are concerned with the existence of monotone traveling waves connecting two different equilibria for a reaction-diffusion PDE where the spatial diffusion is of mean-curvature type. Explicitly, we search for solutions \(u(t, x)=u(x+ct)\) to the PDE \[ u_t= \left(\frac{u_x}{\sqrt{1+u_x^2}}\right)_x + f(u), \] considering different shapes of $f(u)$ so as to include, in our study, several cases which are quite classical in literature. For such reaction terms, we examine the set of the admissible speeds (i.e., the numbers \(c \in \mathbb{R}\) for which there exists a solution as above), showing analogies and differences with respect to the case of a linear diffusion. The technique used relies on a change of variables leading to a suitable first order reduction.
